Teamwork

Some people prefers to work alone but some jobs are just better when worked on together to achieve the common goal.

According to an article from The Happy Manager on why teamwork is important (https://the-happy-manager.com/articles/why-is-teamwork-important/):

“It doesn’t mean everybody doing the same thing or everybody being able to do each other’s jobs. It’s more a means to a synergistic way of working, where the sum is greater than the parts. Properly managed, teamwork maximizes strengths, bringing out the best in each team member, a key theme on this site. These specific, possibly unique individual strengths are then complimented by the strengths of others, or of the team as a unit.”

When one member of the team doesn’t value teamwork, the team output gets affected even if they try their best doing their assigned job, because teamwork is about support, communication, diversity, and trust. You can’t work in a team without these.

Support is important because when you’re in a team, you share the goal and if one fails, the whole team fails so you should be willing to support your co-members and your co-members should be willing to support you because a win for each member is a win for the team. Nothing will work without any form of communication; open, honest, yet respectful communication will help the team move forward faster. Diversity kicks off creativity and innovation amongst the team, it’s helpful to have different minds pitching in their ideas. And trust keeps away the distractions; trusting that each of the members are all thinking about the team’s welfare and trusting that each of the members are capable of their jobs brings the focus back to the common goal.

Ways to Boost Teamwork – at home, at work, or in Sports

  • Teambuilding – any activity just for the team/family to get to spend time together and feel comfortable with each other’s presence.
  • Huddles – Something big going on? A general cleaning at home or multiple deadlines coming in at work? It’s nice to stop and huddle and just talk about the strategy for the day, hear each one out on what they are assigned to do and if they need help.
  • Brainstorms – It gives everyone the chance to share their ideas and also to listen and learn about other ideas. It could be a good platform to improve work processes
  • Get feedback from everyone – There is the tendency that those who talk are the only ones heard, it is also important to know what has not been said yet.
  • Encourage your team – Tokens are also effective reminders for your team. You can use Ajooba’s motivational magnets, mugs, and puzzles to remind them of teamwork’s importance. Give it as a gift to a household member, a colleague, or a teammate.
